I have extensive experience in data science, most recently as a Staff Data Scientist at Airbnb. Previously, I have worked at startups and as an independent consultant.
Currently building something new full-time. If you want to talk about urban data, real estate, or zoning, especially if it's about New York City:
From 2018 to 2024, I worked at Airbnb as a staff data scientist. Before that, I've worked as a freelance consultant, a data scientist, and as a consultant.
As a data scientist, I have deep expertise in both experimental design, a wide range of causal inference techniques, and machine learning. At Airbnb, I was the lead data scientist for cancellations policies. Both at this role and previously, I have led analysis end-to-end, starting from initial analysis, to deployment in production algorithms, and long-term iteration.
If you want to check that I can actually code, you can find my recent projects on Github.
I have deployed projects using a wide range of languages and tools, including Python, R, SQL, Javascript, Haskell, Scala, and more.
I studied economics both for my undergrad in Germany and for my PhD at the University of Chicago. I enjoy teasing causal claims out of observational data.
